About

My name is JP. I am a nobody fireman, in nowhere USA. I love this job. I love going to fires, to the firehouse, talking shop, stretching lines, and throwing ladders. I’m an everyday fireman. On the flip side, I love creating art.

As far back as I can remember, I wanted to be a fireman…..and I can also remember drawing any and everything fire related from a young age. Some of my first firemen were on true trucks wearing long coats and hip boots, punctuated with a leather lid often riding the tailboard… I haven’t strayed too far from that imagery hence the name “the Tailboard Creative.”

I’d be willing to bet that the best seat in the firehouse isn’t looking out of the back doors of a walk-in, its not being whipped around in the tiller box, its peaking around the side of the apparatus from the tailboard, the true OG clean cab. Rolling to a job, gripped and ready to send it.

Although the tailboard may be a thing of the past, I hope I capture even the slightest amount of history, satire, and comedy reflected from our roots to present day in my imagery. Conversely, I hope if any of my imagery finds its way onto the brim of your lids, lockers, or walls, I hope that in slow times, hard times, and definitely the good times, it paints a smile on your face and reminds you why this will always be the greatest job on the planet.

From my Tailboard to yours.
